Celebrate

Today I am 50 years old.  No big deal...yet.  I had the day off work, relaxed, had an early lunch out with Tex, and then dinner out with Tex, Matt, Cory and Miles.  Lillians Kitchen is our new fave place.  Have eaten there 3 times and have only had great experiences.  I went on a walk with my friend Ana this morning, and drove my birthday gift (the bug) around town also. All the girls from work managed to surprise me with dinner out, at Vita, downtown.  We all had a few (too many) cocktails and a delicious dinner, with gifts to open after it all.  All in all, a great day, and a great way to start a new year.

Tex had another successful cataract surgery last Thursday, and is now seeing 20/20, probably for the first time in 40 some odd years.  he is thrilled.  Cory moved out a couple of weeks ago and is living about a mile away with 3 other college students.  She has a nice room in a converted attic, and is learning to share 1 bathroom with these 3 other people.  Fortunately for Cory, she has a pretty early schedule monday thru thursday, so she pretty much has the bathroom to herself in the morning.  The house has a bench, and a drinking fountain built into the corner of the front yard.  The owner of the house dedicated these items in memory of his mother who used to sit on her lawn chair in the afternoon, with a cocktail, and visited with neighbors as they went by. It's a pretty nice place.  Just finished a good book called Consumption, by Kevin Patterson.  It is a novel that takes place in the Arctic.  It's a little on the dark side, but it still had me looking forward to sitting down and reading it in the afternoon.  Anyone have any recommendations for my next read?

Hope is gone

Well, i had a little chat with ken and barbie this morning, and sad to say, but they love Sarah Palin.  After a few minutes of having to listen to them extoll the virtues of the Republican party candidate, i had to ask Barbie, "as a women how do you feel about Sarah P?"  Barbie then said "well, i love her style" and then she put ken's glasses on said, "see how much i look like her?"  I can still hold out that there is hope, but it is so scary that there are women out there that are looking at Sarah Palins glasses, or her clothes, and finding some kind of connection.  I think i will take up drinking.

Tex and friend Stew hung some of his guitars on the living room wall.  It is so nice to have them hanging on the wall, and not in their cases where we couldn't see them at all.
Tex's 26 pepper plants are finally starting to ripen.  They are beautiful!  Some are extremely hot, which he only offers us $1.00 to try, others are sweet.  Some he will use at the restaurant, but most will be picked and divided among the brave people who will eat them on a dare.

So we have a couple that come in the restaurant 6 days a week.  he is 62 she is 39.  we call them ken and barbie.  she is the daughter of a very, very successful real estate broker, and their $$$ has moss growing on it, it is so old.  he (ken) is also a real estate agent, works for the father.  you could say he married the trophy wife.  she is always, always, tan; likes to wear leopard print shoes, and has hair extensions.  bad ones to boot. they absolutely hate children. if they are taking up a table for too long, all we have to do is set up a high chair near their table and they are out of the place instantly. they have many rentals in town and in this economy and housing slump i suppose they make their living collecting rent.  they are republicans, and every day tex tries to talk politics, but it is useless.  i can't believe that as a women, barbie can actually believe that palin represents her. how can palin be pro life when she is a hunter?  ugh, we are in serious trouble if she gets in the white house.  so tomorrow i may just have to ask barbie how she feels about palin.  i dread it, but i want to see if there is a bit of hesitation on her part, as far as palin being a good running mate for mccain.  if she doesn't like palin, then i know that there is hope.

so, where to begin.  tex has had a very successful cataract removal.  it was so great seeing the doc take the eye patch off, and the look on his face.  the carpet in the docs office was a floral pattern, and tex said he was seeing in 3-D!  what a rewarding day that was.  now we just have to wait for october 9th for the next one.  i figure since he is seeing in high def, we don't need to get a new tv.  since then, what has been happening.  cory has been home since april, and i'm very happy that she is here.  oregon is too far away.  i think adult children should only be as far away, that you could drive, have lunch, and be home in the same day. she went to check out a room in a house with 2 other girls.  it's not far from our house and very close to the restaurant. it sounds promising.  we will miss having her here, but realize that she needs her own space. matt is playing a lot of music which makes him happy.  he has moved from the corner of branciforte and broadway to bixby street in lower ocean neighborhood.  his house is a little crazy in that he and his roommates live in the basement apartment of an old victorian.  his room is the first room you have to walk through to get into another roommates room, and then through that room, on to get to the rest of the house.  Hmmm. he doesn't seem to mind...yet.
today is our 23rd wedding anniversary.  seems like it was just yesterday...we were recalling our day, way back when, with cory and miles today.  we had a nice wedding, the music was great, wish our kids could have been there, i think they would have had fun.  so in 23 years we have accomplished much, 2 awesome kids, a great business that we work our butts off to maintain, and i can still say that i love him. how about that!  to celebrate i'm making dinner, and a yummy fruit tart for dessert.
oh, but best of all, tex gave me a early birthday gift--the cutest '64 volkswagen bug. i have to figure out how to download, or upload pictures. the car is in great shape, and it runs really well. it does need a bit of work, but nothing that keeps me from driving it.  i have gotten quite a few comments and i can see people checking it out as i drive by.  Fun!  Well, that's about it for now.  hopefully i will try to post more often.

wow, it's been quite some time since my last blog.  life has been busy, tiring to say the least. tex has a eye doc appointment tomorrow. this doc will take measurements of his eyes.  this i assume is for the surgery and for picking what sort of lense to put in his eye.  i'm glad that something is beginning to happen with all of this.  his surgery won't be until july 24th.  this is such a long time for him to have to wait.  it is pushing him to his limits, and mine.  i guess i should have been an opthalmologist.  i could be making a fortune removing cataracts.  matt is recovering from a case of strep throat, at least we think it's strep.  he has responded to the penicillan and is feeling much better.  after 3 dates in 2 days he couldn't understand how on earth he could be so sick.  i'm just glad that he didn't contract mono.  that would have been awful. cory has been working her toosh off for the past couple of days. she is making bank and putting it all away. i'm glad that she got the "saving" gene.  i don't feel like i have to worry that she will get into a bad situation with her money.  she can manage it very well. the garden looks beautiful, thanks to tex and all the time off he has had.  he is really enjoying playing guitar with his new friend stu, and i think that when he gets his eyes in working order again, he should continue to take saturday off so that he can jam with stu. this is something that i think he has needed in life for quite sometime.  i'm happy for him. adrienne came over tonight to watch the celtic/laker game. one of her very good friends from 3 rivers died last night in a car wreck.  she was very upset.  too much tragedy in her life.  i'm sure she is missing juan right now also.  she is tough.  i have been so lucky in my life, that i haven't had many horrible things happen. so anyhow, i'm getting pooped and will sign off now.  until next time.

a light at the end of the tunnel

so here i am again at my blog, with not too much to add. the weather here has been fantastic. what a beautiful spring we're having. my allergies haven't been too bad either. can't believe april is almost gone. cory will be 19 in 21 days. where has the time gone? she has matured into a beautiful, young women. tex finally went to the eye doc today, and as i thought his cataracts have worsened. he will have to have them removed. he has been so upset about his vision lately, i just hope the doc can get it done soon. maybe he won't even need glasses afterwards. i'm just glad that help is on the way. matt and the spurts have a show tonight in monterey. he had a upset stomach today. maybe a case of nerves before the show? that's all for now.

Running in Circles

So, this is my first attempt at a blog. don't know that i have anything to say, that anyone would even be interested in. i worked today, and everything was pretty mellow. i had a great crew on, so i was able to slack for a little while, with great confidence that everything and everyone would be taken care of. this slacking only lasts for about the time it takes to eat a sandwich. then it's back up and perusing the room. was tired most of the day, got through it. had a really nice dinner out last night with matt and adrienne. we went to the new italian restaurant on soquel ave, lillian's kitchen. the food was great, ambiance was also nice. very neighborly and casual. we shared a bottel of storr's zinfandel. it was quite nice having some wine with son matt. he is definatley interested in learning about wine. i think it would be interesting to be able to pick out the "fruity, yet oak tint" in a batch of wine. adrienne is always great company. love her. she is our saving grace after our long winter workadays. tex and cory came back from picking up all of cory's things at university of oregon. he was stressed and exhausted. he shouldn't have gone feeling as sick as he did. cory, i think is happy to be home. i'm sure we will drive her crazy in no time flat and she will probably start wondering why on earth she left oregon! so, it's 10:00 pm and i'm tired. i am going to turn in. hopefully i will remember all of my passwords to get back on here and blog some more tomorrow. nighty, nite!
